Garden Lodge is ideally situated to make the most of activities on offer within East Lothian and further afield in Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders.
Golf
There are numerous golf courses in East Lothian including championship level courses on the coast. The nearest are in Dunbar, Haddington and Gifford.
Walking
The Lammermuirs can be easily accessed and provide great views and hill walking. Grouse shooting takes place between the months of August and October. John Muir Country Park, Dunbar offers several woodland and beach walks.
Beaches
There are good beaches all along the coast and the nearest are Ravensheugh and Belhaven Sands. Seacliff near North Berwick is also popular. There is an attractive foreshore in the John Muir Country Park at Tyninghame.
Edinburgh
Edinburgh is renowned for its festivals. The Old and New Towns are a world heritage site. There are many easily accessible museums and other cultural attractions outside the festival season. There is an extensive range of restaurants throughout the city. The centre of Edinburgh is 40 minutes away by car and easily accessed by bus from East Linton and train from Dunbar.
Scottish Borders
The Scottish Borders has a mix of very fine scenery and attractive market towns. There are many activities in the area including the award winning mountain biking trails at Glentress
Castles
There are a number of spectacular castles in the county. Tantallon Castle, North Berwick has amazing cliff top views. Dirleton Castle is a ruined castle with lots of history and nearby Hailes Castle has associations with Mary Queen of Scots.
Museum of Flight
The National Museum of Flight at East Fortune (tel: 0131 247 4238) has a wide range of exhibits, including Concorde.
Wildlife
There is an internationally renowned wildfowl reserve at Aberlady Bay and the Scottish Seabird Centre at North Berwick provides close up views, via fibre optic cable, of the birds on Bass Rock. Whittingehame Estate itself also has a significant range of wildlife.
